Agreement to Terms
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Need To ID website at https://www.needtoid.com and any related services (collectively, the “Service”), operated by Badge Apps (“we,” “us,” or “our”).
By accessing or using the Service, you confirm that you are at least 18 years old, that you have read and understood these Terms, and that you agree to be bound by them. If you do not agree, you must not use the Service.
Description of the Service
Need To ID is a public-facing bulletin distribution platform that allows authorized law enforcement agencies to publish crime bulletins and receive tips from the public. The Service enables:
- Members of the public to view published bulletins and submit tips to law enforcement.
- Subscribers to receive bulletin notifications by email.
- Authorized law enforcement personnel to create, manage, and publish bulletins through a dedicated portal.
Need To ID is an information distribution tool only. We are not a law enforcement agency and do not investigate crimes or direct law enforcement action.
Acceptable Use
You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You agree not to:
- Submit false, misleading, or malicious tips or information.
- Impersonate any person, law enforcement officer, or agency.
- Use the Service to harass, threaten, or harm any individual.
- Attempt to circumvent any security measure or access controls on the Service.
- Use automated tools to scrape, crawl, or extract data from the Service without prior written permission.
- Upload or transmit malicious code, viruses, or any harmful content.
- Use the Service for any commercial purpose without our express written consent.
- Violate any applicable federal, state, or local law or regulation.
Tip Submissions
When you submit a tip through the Service, you represent and warrant that the information you provide is, to the best of your knowledge, truthful and accurate. You acknowledge that:
- Your tip, including any contact information you provide, will be transmitted to the relevant law enforcement agency and to Badge Apps for platform oversight.
- Your IP address and browser information are logged and may be shared with law enforcement as part of the tip record.
- Submitting a knowingly false tip may be illegal and subject you to civil or criminal liability under applicable law.
- We have no control over how law enforcement agencies use, investigate, or act on the information you submit.
Law Enforcement Accounts
Access to the law enforcement portal requires registration with a valid agency email address and approval by Badge Apps. Law enforcement users agree to:
- Publish only factually accurate bulletin information that the agency has authorization to release publicly.
- Not publish content that is defamatory, discriminatory, or violates an individual's legal rights.
- Maintain the confidentiality of their account credentials.
- Notify us immediately at info@badgeapps.com if they believe their account has been compromised.
- Comply with all agency policies, department protocols, and applicable laws governing public communications and information release.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate any account that, in our sole judgment, has been used in violation of these Terms or in a manner inconsistent with the purpose of the Service.
Bulletin Content
Bulletins published on the Service are created by and remain the responsibility of the publishing law enforcement agency. Need To ID does not independently verify the accuracy of bulletin content. We reserve the right to remove or restrict access to any bulletin that we reasonably believe:
- Violates these Terms or applicable law.
- Contains information that is demonstrably false or materially misleading.
- Creates legal or safety risks for the platform or third parties.
Intellectual Property
The Need To ID name, logo, website design, and all original content created by Badge Apps are our intellectual property and may not be reproduced, distributed, or used without prior written permission.
Bulletin content — including photographs, descriptions, and case details — is provided by and remains the property of the publishing law enforcement agency. You may share individual bulletin URLs for informational, non-commercial purposes. Systematic reproduction, republication, or commercial use of bulletin content is prohibited without agency authorization.
Disclaimer of Warranties
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement.
We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that bulletin information is complete, current, or accurate. You rely on any information provided through the Service at your own risk.
Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Badge Apps and its officers, directors, employees, and agents shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages — including loss of profits, data, or goodwill — arising out of or related to your use of or inability to use the Service, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.
Our total cumulative liability to you for any claim arising out of or related to these Terms or the Service shall not exceed one hundred dollars ($100).
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Badge Apps and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses — including reasonable attorneys' fees — arising out of or in connection with your use of the Service, your submission of tips or other content, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any third-party rights.
Third-Party Links and Content
The Service may contain links to websites operated by law enforcement agencies or other third parties. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, privacy practices, or availability. Links do not constitute our endorsement of those sites.
Modifications to the Service
We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service (or any part of it) at any time, with or without notice. We will not be liable to you or any third party for any modification, suspension, or discontinuation of the Service.
Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date above. Continued use of the Service after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms. For material changes, we will make reasonable efforts to notify users by posting a notice on the Service or by email to subscribed users.
Governing Law and Dispute Resolution
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to its conflict-of-law provisions. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service shall be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Dallas County, Texas, and you consent to personal jurisdiction in those courts.
